Note: Regimental records for the 15th NC Infantry indicate that he was on sick furlough in February 1862 and that he died on 4 March 1862. The regiment was positioned near Goldsboro, NC in the spring of 1862 in support of Confederate efforts to counter Burnside. Presumably that is where he died, but his compiled military service file lists NC, without further qualification, as his place of death.
